If you start a dictionary attack on the targeted archive, the program will essentially try different words, one after another, as a human would, but much faster, at a rate of several hundreds of thousands of words per minute. The program comes with its own dictionary, but you can create and use your own dictionaries if you need to. Even with the program's high checking rate, it may still take some time until it identifies the correct password. This is why it comes with an option for shutting down the computer automatically when it finds the password.
